Lipstick, meet pig

28 February 2009

There was some crazy, random sale at Best Buy today, and they had a PSP bundle for $99. I still didn’t buy it.

Video games were called “recession proof”—that is, until developers and publishers started shedding jobs in the thousands. Yet Nintendo, even though it has reported a reduction in revenues, hasn’t shed any jobs, and is still making good money. Why is no one asking the tough questions about why all these respected and “successful” developers/publishers are cutting jobs during one of the most wildly successful times in video game history?

The Japanese love their exclusive RPGs so much that they’re willing to sacrifice their dignity and buy an Xbox 360 just to play them.

Sony continues its tried and true practice of announcing “PS3-saving” games in one year, and then waiting two years to actually, you know, release them. And people wonder why their hardcore games sales charts look like a male orgasm.

I can’t believe I actually found these exclusive PSP2 prototype pics before anyone else!

Now, instead of having to wait for the leaderboards to load up like they normally do, you’ll get to experience the joy that is waiting for PlayStation Home to load up so that it can display them in the *angelic trumpeting* Warhawk Command Center. And then you’ll have to virtually walk around and find them on a screen because it’s Sony Home and things are all about being as inane, worthless and slightly-less-interesting-as-Second Life as possible.

Is the future of the PlayStation brand really weekly LittleBigPlanet DLC costume announcements? Because it sure feels that way.

I know the console is desperate, and prone to latch onto whatever exclusive titles wander drunkenly into its Blu-Ray drive, but this is getting ridiculous. I didn’t think it was possible, but there are actually more “new LittleBigPlanet costume DLC!!1!” posts on the blogs these days than spluge-fests about Killzone 2. Incredible.

They tease us with MotionPlus 1:1 controls at E3, then they conveniently don’t mention release dates. And finally, when their Wii/DS 2009 release calendar is finalized today, they rip out the rug from under us and don’t mention Wii Sports Resort or MotionPlus at all.

Who gives a hoot about the rest—Punch-Out smacks around the Wii in May.

And here I thought it was Sony that always ripped off Nintendo! Not so anymore! Perhaps Nintendo is just openly mocking Sony at this point. Who knows.
